How to convert WebP to PNG

  1. Drop your .webp images onto the box above, or paste one from the clipboard.
  2. Convert to is already set to PNG (lossless).
  3. Press Convert to PNG.
  4. Download the PNG files individually or as a single ZIP.

The best choice for graphics with transparency

Stickers, logos, icons and product cut-outs are often published as WebP with a transparent background. If you need to use one in a slide deck, a document, a design tool or an app that does not understand WebP, PNG is the natural replacement. Both formats support a full alpha channel, so soft shadows and anti-aliased edges come through intact.

PNG is also the better choice for screenshots and images that contain text. JPG would add faint ringing around letters, while PNG keeps every pixel exactly.

For ordinary photos, WebP to JPG gives you a much smaller file that opens everywhere.

What to expect

  • Exact pixels. The PNG is saved losslessly, so it matches the decoded WebP pixel for pixel. If the WebP was itself lossy, the small artefacts it already had are kept, not added to.
  • Bigger files. A lossy WebP of a photo can grow five to ten times as a PNG. For flat graphics the difference is much smaller.
  • Still images only. Animated WebPs are not supported; the tool is made for ordinary still images.

If the PNG turns out larger than you need, compress the PNG to reduce its colour palette while keeping transparency, or go back to WebP with the image converter at a high quality.

Runs entirely in your browser

The conversion uses WebAssembly builds of libwebp and an optimised PNG encoder, running in a background thread on your device. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored, so you can convert client artwork or private images without worry. After your first visit the tool keeps working offline.

Frequently asked questions

Is the transparency kept?

Yes. Both WebP and PNG support an alpha channel, so transparent and semi-transparent areas come through exactly as they were.

Should I pick PNG or JPG for a WebP file?

Pick PNG for logos, icons, stickers and anything with transparency or sharp text. Pick JPG for photos, where it gives a much smaller file.

Is the conversion lossless?

Yes. PNG output is saved losslessly, so the pixels match the decoded WebP exactly. If the WebP was lossy, its existing compression artefacts remain.

Are my files uploaded anywhere? How can I check?

No. The WebP to PNG converter runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device. You can verify it: open your browser's DevTools (F12, or Cmd+Option+I on a Mac), switch to the Network tab, tick "Preserve log", clear the list and process a file. You will only see requests for this site's own static files, never one that carries your data. You can also turn on "Offline" in the Network tab (or disconnect from the internet) once the page has loaded, and the tool keeps working.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After your first visit a service worker saves the tool to your device, so it opens and works without a connection. Only advertising needs the internet; the processing never does.
