How to merge PDF files

  1. Drop two or more PDFs onto the box above, or choose them from your device.
  2. Each file appears as a card with a thumbnail of its first page, its page count and size. Drag the cards into the order you want. On a phone, or if you prefer the keyboard, use the up and down arrows on each card.
  3. Remove any file you added by mistake with the Remove button.
  4. Press Merge and download merged.pdf.

The pages of the first file come first, followed by the second file, and so on. The original files are never changed.

Your documents stay on your device

Contracts, invoices and scans are often sensitive, which is why merging in the browser matters. This tool reads your files directly from disk, combines their pages with a PDF library running in a background thread and gives you the result as a download. There is no upload step and no server that could keep a copy. You can confirm it yourself with the DevTools steps in the FAQ below, and the tool also works with the network turned off once the page has loaded.

What is kept and what is not

Merging copies each page, with its text, fonts, images and vector graphics, into a new document. Text stays selectable and sharp, and the file size is close to the sum of the originals.

Some document-level features belong to the whole file rather than to a page, so they are not carried over: bookmarks and outlines, interactive form fields, document-level JavaScript and embedded file attachments. Links inside a page that point to another page of the same file may stop working. If you rely on these, merge the files in your PDF editor instead.

Tips for large or messy files

  • Password-protected PDFs cannot be read. Remove the password in the program that created the file, then merge.
  • Mixed page sizes are fine. Each page keeps its own size and orientation, so an A4 portrait file followed by a landscape slide deck simply produces pages of different shapes.
  • To combine only certain pages of a document, use the split tool first to extract them, then merge the pieces.
  • If the result is too large to email, run it through the PDF compressor afterwards.
  • Photos you want to add to a PDF can be turned into pages with the JPG to PDF tool, then merged with the rest.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a limit on files or pages?

There is no fixed limit. Your device memory is the only constraint, so the tool warns you before very large batches rather than crashing the tab.

Are bookmarks and form fields kept?

Page content, images and text are preserved. Document-level extras such as bookmarks and interactive form fields from the source files are not carried over into the merged file.

Can I merge password-protected PDFs?

Not directly. Remove the password in the app that created the file, then merge.

Are my files uploaded anywhere? How can I check?

No. The PDF merger runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device. You can verify it: open your browser's DevTools (F12, or Cmd+Option+I on a Mac), switch to the Network tab, tick "Preserve log", clear the list and process a file. You will only see requests for this site's own static files, never one that carries your data. You can also turn on "Offline" in the Network tab (or disconnect from the internet) once the page has loaded, and the tool keeps working.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After your first visit a service worker saves the tool to your device, so it opens and works without a connection. Only advertising needs the internet; the processing never does.
