Why PNG for PDF pages?
PDF pages are mostly text, lines and flat colour. JPG compression adds faint smudges around sharp edges, which is especially visible on small text and diagrams. PNG is lossless, so every letter, table border and chart line stays perfectly crisp. Choose PNG when you are:
- putting a page into a slide deck, wiki or documentation;
- sharing a chart or diagram as an image;
- capturing a page of a contract or form for a screenshot-style reference;
- preparing images for further editing.
For photo-heavy pages, such as brochures or scanned photos, PDF to JPG gives much smaller files with no visible difference.
Choosing a resolution
| Resolution | A4 / Letter page size | Use for |
|---|---|---|
| 72 to 100 DPI | about 600–850 px wide | thumbnails, previews |
| 150 DPI | about 1250 px wide | screens, documents, slides |
| 200 to 300 DPI | about 1650–2500 px wide | printing, zooming into small detail |
Doubling the DPI makes each image about four times larger in file size, so pick the lowest setting that looks good where the image will be used.
Good to know
- Pages are rendered on a white background, exactly as they look in a PDF viewer.
- Password-protected PDFs need to be unlocked before converting.
- To get the images back into a PDF later, use PNG to PDF. To extract pages as a smaller PDF instead of images, use split PDF.
No upload
The PDF is rendered by pdf.js inside your browser, page by page, on your own device. It is never uploaded, and the converter keeps working offline after the first visit.
Frequently asked questions
PNG or JPG for PDF pages?
PNG keeps text and line art perfectly crisp with no blurry artefacts, so it is best for documents, slides and diagrams. JPG makes much smaller files for photo-heavy pages.
What resolution should I pick?
150 DPI is right for screens and documents. Choose 300 DPI for printing or for zooming into small details; files will be about four times larger.
Is the page background transparent?
No. Pages are rendered on white, as they appear in a PDF viewer, so they look correct everywhere.
Are my files uploaded anywhere? How can I check?
No. The PDF to PNG converter runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device. You can verify it: open your browser's DevTools (F12, or Cmd+Option+I on a Mac), switch to the Network tab, tick "Preserve log", clear the list and process a file. You will only see requests for this site's own static files, never one that carries your data. You can also turn on "Offline" in the Network tab (or disconnect from the internet) once the page has loaded, and the tool keeps working.
Does it work offline?
Yes. After your first visit a service worker saves the tool to your device, so it opens and works without a connection. Only advertising needs the internet; the processing never does.
